Afro-Futurism in the Arts Exhibit opens!

The Future of the Funk: An exciting new exhibit that zooms Black Age into the Afro-futuristic zone!
BLACK Age Art is now represented at two major national African-American History Museums. The DuSable Museum of African-American History in Chicago and now the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia.

A new exhibit that focuses on Afro-Futurism titled,
Afro-Futurism in the Arts-Riffing on the Real opened at the Tubman Museum of African-American art in Macon Georgia. The exhibit will run from July 22 through October 8, 2011. There will be a reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibit at the Museum on Thursday, July 28, from 6 to 8 P.M.
"The term Afro-Futurism refers to the exploration of a range of ideas and themes available in traditional and contemporary black cultures, melded with concepts and motifs commonly found in the various forms of fantastic fiction, including science fiction, horror, alternative history, utopian/dystopian fiction and magic realism. Afro-futurism in the visual arts opens cultures of the past and present up for re-consideration, and re-imagines cultures of the future." -Tubman African American Museum
In todays high risk and stressful culture, many may ask the question:
Are we at risk for extinction? Are we even going to be here in the future?
This exhibit opens us to the vision of Black Age artists who say, "Of course we will be here and we shall flourish!" The images in this show reach to our rich cultural past for iconic symbols of strength to shape and define a vision of our future heros and heroines!
"The forces of the future from Brotherman to NOG NU and many other powerfuly creative images are juxatopsed into a collage of Black Age, Rhythmistic, Afro-Sci-fi and future-primitif art in this Afro Futuristic exhibit."
